John 3:16-18
16. God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die.
17. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn its people. He sent him to save them!
18. No one who has faith in God¡¯s Son will be condemned. But everyone who doesn¡¯t have faith in him has already been condemned for not having faith in God¡¯s only Son.
God loved the people of this world (John 3:16). In the Gospel of John, the world sometimes has trouble with the people of God. Therefore, God¡¯s love toward the world has special meaning. In this new perspective, we can understand the meaning of ¡°everyone who has faith in him¡± (John 3:16). The word ¡°everyone¡± includes all people who believe in Jesus Christ, even those who do not yet believe in Him.
We need to focus on the special reward that the people of God receive in Jesus Christ. This reward is eternal life, not experiencing death (John 3:16). God does not condemn the people of this world, as His purpose is to save them (John 3:17). God¡¯s only Son, Jesus Christ, also does not condemn the people of this world, even though belief in Jesus Christ is the central principle of final judgment (John 3:18).
We always confess that God¡¯s only Son, Jesus Christ, is the eternal principle of our lives. Through His holy life, we can approach eternal life in Jesus Christ. This is God¡¯s special gift to escape the final judgment of this world. The people of God should live in this world, which is full of suffering and despair. Therefore, Jesus Christ is the only hope to save ourselves, others, and all creation in this world.
