In our journey of faith, it is the Holy Spirit who carries out the most essential work. As Peter testifies in Acts 11:16, ¡°Then I remembered what the Lord had said: ¡®John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.¡¯¡± Here, Peter recalls the words of Jesus, underscoring the distinction between John¡¯s baptism with water and the transformative baptism of the Holy Spirit.
John the Baptist had earlier declared, ¡°I baptize you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit¡±(Mark 1:8). And at Jesus¡¯ own baptism, Scripture records, ¡°As Jesus came up out of the water, He saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on Him like a dove¡±(Mark 1:10). These moments reveal not only the divine presence of the Spirit, but His active role in inaugurating and empowering Christ¡¯s ministry.
The meeting between Peter and Cornelius, guided by the Holy Spirit, further illustrates that the Spirit transcends human divisions and initiates divine appointments. The Holy Spirit, who proceeds from God, is the one who unites us with Jesus Christ and with one another in the fellowship of believers.
May the Holy Spirit continually deepen our communion with Christ, strengthening the bond between the Savior and His people day by day.
