Jesus encountered a woman in the region near the city of Tyre. She was Greek, born in the part of Syria known as Phoenicia (Mark 7:26). Her serious concern was that her daughter was possessed by an unclean spirit (Mark 7:25). Therefore, the Syrophoenician woman came to Jesus and begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter (Mark 7:26).
Jesus responded with words that were difficult for the woman to accept: ¡°The children must first be fed! It isn¡¯t right to take away their food and feed it to dogs¡± (Mark 7:27). Yet she did not give up. Instead, she replied with remarkable wisdom and humility, a response that surprised Jesus: ¡°Lord, even dogs eat the crumbs that children drop from the table¡± (Mark 7:28).
Through her persistent faith, the Syrophoenician woman received a special gift from Jesus. Jesus said to her, ¡°That¡¯s true! You may go now. The demon has left your daughter¡± (Mark 7:29). When she returned home, she found that her daughter had been healed and the demon had gone (Mark 7:30).
Jesus healed her daughter in response to her faith, and she received her miraculous gift. May we also receive Jesus¡¯ miracle as a special gift this Christmas.
